Beginner Crochet Pattern

A beautiful and simple sunflower. Made up quickly, it is perfect as an applique, coaster, or in the sunflower micro bikini!

Info & Materials

The photos demonstrated in this pattern are for an

S (24-30 waist, 32-38 hip)

XXS-XS can be made by decreasing the length of the elastics to your measurements and decreasing your stitches with the same amount of increases/decreases as are offered, suggestions for stitch counts are given

L-XXL can be made by increasing the length of the elastics to your measurements and decreasing your stitches with the same amount of increases/decreases as are offered, suggestions for stitch counts are given

Gauge: 20 Ch stitches in 10 DC rows

4x4”

Materials:

#3 thin yarn (DK 11 wpi)

 I like hobbii tencel double

3.5 mm crochet hook

Safety Pin

Soft measuring tape

US Terminology:

SC - Single crochet

SS - Slip stitch

DC - Double crochet

CH - Chain

TR - Treble crochet

The Center (Seeds)

Row 1: Make a magic circle, SC 8 into the loop, SS to end the row

Row 2: SC 2 in each stitch, SS to end row

Row 3: SC 1, SC 2 in 1 stitch (increasing every other stitch, on top of the last row’s increase)

Row 3: SC 1, SC 1, SC 2 in 1 stitch (increasing every second stitch, on top of the last row’s increase)

Row 4: SC 1, SC 1, SC 1, SC 2 in 1 stitch (increasing every third stitch, on top of the last row’s increase)

Row 5: SC 1, SC 1, SC 1, SC 2 in 1 stitch (increasing every fourth stitch, on top of the last row’s increase)

4 rounds for XXS-XS

5 rounds for S

6 rounds for M

7 rounds for L

8 rounds for XL-XXL

The Petals

Row 1: (Petal) CH 2, DC 1, TR 1, CH 3, SS onto the top of the TR stitch, DC 1, HDC 1, SS into the next stitch.]

Row 2: SC into the first stitch, HDC into the next, DC 2 into the chain 3 tip, CH 3, SS onto the top of the DC stitch, DC 1, HDC into the next stitch, SC, SS into the space between petals

Row 3: SS into each stitch, at the CH 3 tip, CH 3, SS into the same space again, SS into each stitch again, down between the petals to separate  them, then back up to continue the pattern

Final Touches

  1. Cut a long tail
  2. Sew in your ends with your tapestry needle
  3. For the center thread, sew it tight so there is no space in the inner circle
